Le Casalte (English)

The story of Fattoria Le Casalte is a wonderful family tale. It all began in 1975 when Guido Barioffi and his wife, Paola, decided to buy an old abandoned country house on the hills of Montepulciano. In just over thirty years it took all of Guido's will and determination ( who incidentally took up studying enology and agronomy ) as well as a lot of sacrifice to transform the dream of having a house in the country into the reality of running a small and successful winery. It was the passion for her horse that brought daughter Chiara to the estate in Montepulciano on weekends, giving her the opportunity to discover a very different life from that in the city of Rome. She would later join her father in running the estate.

Today there are 13 hectares in production on this high plain south of Montepulciano. Approximately 50.000 bottles are produced with a good 60% of them bound for foreign markets. As a result of very meticulous work in all phases of production, Le Casalte has earned mention in all the major magazines of the sector. A great professionalism acquired along the way has helped Chiara in her quest to communicate her passion for this land through her wines.

The first product I would like to mention is the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano 2004. The scents slowly open into a range of mature fruit and spices while, upon tasting, it proves to be an enveloping warm wine with a dense tannin structure. The long finish ends with a surprising elegance. Excellent work with the wood.

The Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Quercietonda 2004 cannot be missed. Intense crimson, persistent scents of red fruits, black cherry and black currant. In the mouth its consistency with the Casalte style immediately comes through. Great strenght and richness of flavor blend well in a very pleasurable balance. Very long finish with vegetal and liquorice encore. Excellent work, Chiara!
