The winery started in 1961 when Dino Carletti bought 22 hectares of vines in Montepulciano because of his great love for this Tuscan land. Due to his work commitments, he was never able to follow the start of the winery, as he had wanted to. Federico, his son, decided to accept the challenge and took over the management of the winery after graduating from agriculture in Florence at 26 years of age. Sensing the evolution that the world of wine would have had beginning at that time, Federico started off in this business immediately aiming for the increase in value of his products in foreign markets. His wine Asinone is among the first top Tuscan "cru" in those years to be valued even outside the national confines. Starting in 1965, the cellar underwent continual restructuring and expansion until the completion of the new barriques room in 2004. Having always been mindful of international trends, Federico understood the need to mainly focus on native wines to the area such as Prugnolo Gentile, which would later become present in at least 70% of his future wines.

Even the acquisition of large barrels for ageing, and therefore not being limited to barriques, marks a business decision that favours tradition and signals the territoriality of his wine while on the agonizing quest for a great product. Today, the Poliziano winery includes an impressive 120 hectares of vines yielding about 800.000 bottles of the seven types of wine produced: wines characterized by the well-defined typicality of the various vineyards and lands which they stem from.

I would put this Vino Nobile di Montepulciano on the podium: Asinone 2004. On the nose it is a harmony of scents and spice. The wood is still present. On the mouth it affords a structure of great impact with elegant tannins and interesting hints of minerals. Persistent in the finish. A must-have for your cellar. It will improve with time. Excellent investment
