This small family business is run by Mauro Brunelli and Anna Savini who both originate from farming families that have always lived in Montalcino. In 1964 the family moved to this small farm of about three hectares not far from the city centre. At the end of the 1990s son Luca finished his studies in agriculture and important work experiences at local cellars and decided to take over the reins of the winery. Today the Brunelli winery stretches over 15 hectares of land, five of which are cultivated with vines. The rest is covered with olive groves and woods. Luca is a very determined young man. Meticulous work in the vineyards, where techniques favouring low yields per hectare are preferred, and very thorough selection of grapes at the time of the harvest are the foundations of the top quality of his products.

The wines are aged in middle to large sized barrels and partly in French barriques in the new cellar built next to the farmhouse. There are about 25,000 bottles produced with 80% covering foreign markets. A new challenge has recently arisen with the acquisition of four hectares in the area of the Montecucco denomination. We will see the result of this investment in the coming years.
The Rosso di Montalcino 2005 is the fruit of an excellent vintage making it a very interesting wine. A full and deep ruby red. A bouquet predominantly of spices from liquorice to cinnamon. Upon tasting, it best expresses its character evolved from the harvest with a pleasant balance and soft tannins making it a wine to drink now, unlike other vintages.

However, I must say that the most wonderful surprise is the Brunello di Montalcino 2002, originanting from such a difficult year. The painstaking work in the vineyards has produced great results. A lovely classical ruby red in colour. On the nose it pleasantly unites the spicy with the floral. On the palate it shows an interesting structure with a good dose of wood. Pleasure from the first drop. It end with a finish that is not extremely long, a distinctive quality of that particular vintage.
