Podernuovo (English)

In a distant 1959, this small familly business started as a farm just like many other estate from this beautiful valley at the foot of the hills of Montalcino, which extends to the famous Crete Senesi. The first vines were planted in 1972 followed by further planting in 1991 and most recently in 2002 for a total of about five hectares. Since childhood, Federico, son of Ivo and Marina, clearly knew what he wanted to do when he grew up: manage the wine produtcion of the estate. After studyng winemaking and obtaining work experience in different cellars of the area, Federico started to dedicate himself to the family winery, immediately archieving excellent results and positive feedback on the market with this new denomination of wine from the municipality of Siena: Orcia. In 2003 he was given the award for best estate run by a young businessman. Great care is taken in each phase of production.

Precise work in the vineyard favours harvests yielding grapes of superior quality, which, in addition to a well-researched choice of wood for ageing, create a product of absolute pleasure with characteristic fragrances. A big investment in a new cellar and slight increase in production with the addition of other denominations are the foundation of future projects.

A noteworthy wine from his production is the 2005 Orcia Rosso Nectar. A beautiful purple red. On the nose a surprising gamma of red fruits and infinite floral hints. In the mouth it proves to be a direct wine with balance among its components. Very long aromatic and intense persistence and rich in nuances. A pure Sangiovese, which is just as good as many of the wines from Montalcino.

 The other wine, which I would like to mention, comes from our origins! It is called 2003 Orcia Rosso Il Primo, named after the original sin: in fact, an apple appears on the label. It is produced only in the best harvest, such as in 2001, following a very careful section from which only 4.000 bottles are made. Sangiovese with a small percentage of Cabernet, it is a convincing wine with its fragrance, freshness and elegance. A winery with quality products at excellent prices.
