Poggio Antico (English)

In 1984, the Poggio Antico winery was bought by Signor Gloder who arrived from Milan with the dream of having a house in the Tuscan countryside. Through a friend, he had the opportunity to buy this very beautiful property which boasts 200 hectares of woods, olive groves and vineyards. Today the heart and soul of Poggio Antico is his daughter Paola who, in 1987 at barely 20 years of age, decided to leave Milan in order to start this new adventure and run the business. With the help of husband Alberto, who joined her in the management of the winery in 1998, Poggio Antico would play an increasingly important role in the realm of Montalcino with every passing vintage.

  Poggio Antico exports 90% of its annual production of 100.000 bottles to over 32 countries worldwide. Meticulous attention in all phases of production, particularly in marketing and developing the image of the winery, has made Poggio Antico an exemplary business model today. Continual work in the vineyards, low yields ( 1kg of grapes for each plant), the choice of the best oak for ageing and a great investment in the new cellar are all choices of great professionalism which translate into excellent products acclaimed by awards and high scores from all the magazines of the sector.

The Rosso di Montalcino 2005 is excellent. Very beautiful ruby red colour. The fragrances are extremely intense and varied. Upon tasting, it immediately proves to be a model of pleasantness with great balance among all its components and top raw materials. Long finish with light tones of spice and tobacco. A pleasure with each taste.

The Brunello di Montalcino 2001 is not to be missed. Persistent scents of mature fruit alternate with notes of chocolate and tar. Enveloping on the palate with mature and delicate tannins. Very long finish. An outstanding Sangioevse.
