This certainly is not the usual story of the businessman from the North who comes to Tuscany to invest in a winery and produce his own wine. Just speak with Pasquale Forte to understand that his is a mission to accomplish. Moved by a great passion for the land following biodynamic and organic rhythms in complete respect for nature, he would like to recreate a farmhouse like in olden times. Therefore not only vineyards and wine, but also olives for oil from his oil mill, grain for flour, a wood-burning oven to bake bread in, a botanical garden to rediscover flavours of the past, a truffe-ground and, naturally, animals featuring a Cinta Senese pig farm. The ten years since it all started have been dedicated to understanding the territory and studying its resources.

In developing this project and, most importently, the winemaking aspect of it, Forte has chosen the best consultants in the wine sector and has created a laboratory for analysis capable of following and monitoring all the phases of vinification. The business philosophy is mostly based on research and experimentation, great care of the vines and very rigorous clonal selections in order to produce excellent raw materials. The main objective is the maximum expression of the Sangiovese cultivar which Forte strongly believes in. Low yields, spontaneous fermentation light pigeage instead of repassing the must over the grape dregs, ageing in French oak barriques.

Today there are 11 hectares of vineyards with five in production while the others will be planted according to the results of meticulous studies on plant density. The number of bottles produced varies between 8.000 and 10.000. The leading cru of the house is the Orcia Rosso Petrucci 2004 whose trump card is its balance and elegance, persistent scents of black cherry and plum with also tobacco and hints of spice. Enveloping on the palate with extremely pleasurable soft tannins. Long in the finish. A great Sangiovese in pure form.

The Orcia Rosso Guardavigna 2004, a blend of Sangiovese, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Sauvignon, is characterized by vegetal notes, mature red fruits and balsamic hints. Upon tasting it immediately proves to be a highly complex wine with a dense structure between its warm tones and important sapidity. The finish is of great length with swwet and spicy nuances.
